I was giving him a love letter. He never got his version of the story written, but the miracle was that I finished mine while his brain was still working. He got to read the whole thing. He got to know that he and his story were going to exist long after he took off his dog suit and wen to the great  beyond. 

 

소중한 누군가에게 주는 선물로서의 글쓰기라는 개념 자체는 마음을 따뜻하게 하는데 이 장에서 소개된 앤이 글을 선물한 대상은 세상을 떠난 아버지, 절친, 친구 부부의 5개월 된 아기라 애틋하다. 

 

Toni Morrison said, "The function of freedom is to free someone else," and if you are no longer wracked or in bondage to a person or a way of life, tell your story. Risk freeing someone else. 

 

글을 통해 자유로워지는 것. 녹터널 애니멀스의 에드워드가 생각났다. 이 경우는 앤이 이 장에서 말한 글로써 타인을 자유롭게 한 게 아니라 반대로 상대를 과거에 가둠으로써 자기 자신을 자유롭게 한 것이지만.
