The word block suggests that you are constipated or stuck, when the truth is that you're empty. (...) The problem is acceptance, which is something we're taught not to do. We're taught to improve uncomfortable situations, to change things, alleviate unpleasant feelings. But if you accept the reality that you have been given - that you are not in a productive creative period - you free yourself to begin filling up again. 

 

속이 텅 빈 것처럼 아웃풋을 낼 수 없는 건 인풋이 부족해서 그런 거라고 생각했는데 오늘 하루 인풋 과잉이었음에도 불구하고 뭘 써야 할지 도통 모르겠다. 어젯밤 새 글 쓰기 프로젝트의 가닥을 잡은 느낌이라 오늘은 각 잡고 앉아 써보려고 했는데 결국 전혀. 타이밍 좋은 앤의 조언을 따라 오늘은 그런 날이다라고 받아들이기로 했다. 

 

Mark Twain said that Adam was the only man who, when he said a good thing, knew that nobody had said it before. Life is like a recycling center, where all the concerns and dramas of humankind get recycled back and forth across the universe. But what you have to offer is your own sensibility, maybe your own sense of humor or insider pathos or meaning. All of us can sing the same song, and there will be four billion different renditions. Some people will sing it spontaneously, with a lot of soulful riffs, while others are going to practice until they could sing it at the Met. 

 

우왓 메트에서 노래 부를 수 있을 정도로 계속 연습만 하는 거 굉장히 내가 할만한 짓이다. 게으름 때문에 완벽을 기하기 전에 이미 귀찮아져서 결코 완벽주의자는 아니라고 생각하지만, 부끄럼쟁이라 남 앞에서 뭔가 보여주려면 그래도 보통 이상은 해야 한다는 강박이 있다. 태양 아래 새로운 것 없다라... 결국 똑같은 노래라 해도 내 느낌으로 부르는 것에 의미가 있다면 해볼 만하다.
